Welcome to the Flavor of the Week for March 5th – March 11th (I know this is a tad late) , where we will be talking about what games AButtonGames has been checking out, what games are hot, and what to expect!
As many of you know a couple of big games came out for Playstation Plus this month: Bloodborne and Ratchet and Clank re-imagining! AButtonGames jumped on the opportunity to download and play, and we are quite satisfied so far. In addition check out the latest update on Fortnight’s record breaking week. It’s all below!
Although it took me almost 3 days to get Bloodborne downloaded I finally jumped in to the gory action. I am a long time fan of the Dark Souls series and I was pleasantly surprised with how similar, yet how different it is. Most of the core mechanics stay the same but the gameplay is much faster. If you have yet to play Bloodborne or any Dark Souls games, let me give you a briefing. It’s a difficult action-RPG where you can use a multitude of weapons to defeat morbid monsters in a grim, dark, barren world filled with dungeons. That was quite a sentence but also pretty accurate. The Souls games features giant weapons, shields, armor, magic, and miracles to defeat epic bosses… and you die… a lot! Bloodborne seems to stem from the series but offers some unique changes.
There’s wolves everywhere and I get to shoot things (Although I usually just use my gun to aggro). The special attack on my ax is so satisfying to see big bad enemies go flying! The dodging is way more effective and smoother, and weapons seem to swing faster than the Dark Souls games. The use of your healing potion has its own button! Bravo Bethesda! Why can’t you do that in Dark Souls? Anyways, I put on about 10 hours already and defeated the first 4 bosses, and a Chalice dungeon (with the help of some other players). Although there has been a couple glitches with enemies falling into the floor, I have been thoroughly enjoying myself so far. The multiplayer seems really booming right now, so I suggest you jump on and give it a try while everyone is playing! Free is always good.
Ratchet and Clank
I recently took the opportunity to download Insomniac’s Ratchet and Clank PS4 Re-master (re-imaging) and I was not disappointed! This is a much welcomed return to the classic platforming action games we all know and love. I hesitate to use the word ‘re-mastered’ because this game is so much more than that and that term usually has negative undertones. This game features a new telling of our heroes origin story all in a beautifully rendered universe that is as fun to look at as it is to explore. Fans of the series will be familiar with many of the mechanics and events that take place in this game. To those who are less familiar, Ratchet (a lombax) and clank (a defective robot) travel the universe together, visiting different planets and helping others along way as they try to prevent the evil Dr. Nefarious from ‘eliminating’ all competition. Along your journey you will collect nuts and bolts (this games currency) and use them to acquire new gadgets/weapons to use on your enemies. Like many classic platformers each member has special skill sets that will allow you to access different areas at different points in the game. The new gadgets will also unlock previously blocked off areas, expanding the already rather large maps.
The gameplay is buttery smooth and super responsive, a few minor annoyances while climbing, or getting stuck while in combat are few and far between but should be noted.
Insomniac did such a great job re-created a game I loved so much as a child. Giving you that sense of discovery when unlocking that needed power up and that sense of awe when arriving on a new planet and seeing the very well stylized graphics. A welcomed addition to the PS4 catalog of free games!
Breaking records and taking names! Fortnite can seemingly do no wrong as of lately. It has been making headlines these past few weeks with more record breaking performances and the announcement of the mobile version of the game.
Earlier this week, Twitch streamer and Fortnite powerhouse Ninja teamed up with Drake and JuJu Smith-Schuster for what has already gone down as the one of the biggest moments in the history of Twitch. The stream, was as entertaining as it was popular, drawing in a record shattering 525,000 concurrent watchers for a single players stream. The chat section for this stream alone was enough to drive a sane person crazy. So much so, that many watchers took to twitter as their forum for chatting during the stream. The coolest part about this whole thing? None of this was staged and this was not a promotion of any kind, although all involved are likely to benefit from this. This was just some awesome people, having an awesome time, breaking some records and entertaining over half a million a people! Truly, a great night for gamers.
However, that is not the only record Fortnite has officially broken in the past few weeks. Google analytics recently divulged their most popular searches and search terms. For the first time in a LONG time, minecraft was no longer the most searched for game on google! You guessed it, Fortnite, now played by over 45 million people worldwide, is now the most searched for game on all of google. We are confident that the announcement and subsequent release of the mobile game will only add for kindling to this fire.
Shattering all expectation and with slowdown in site, can Fortnite be stopped? What will be the next big game?
Also, keep an eye on twitter and other social media. There appears to be some interest with other rap artists, athletes and streamers alike. Most recently was a tweet from JuJu Smith-Schuster about squads with Lil-Yachty and some others.
